1785-1795 Levite of Over Gown by Wingeo
Product Description
As the gowns of this time period began to be made of lighter fabrics, when the weather did chill down, a lady would have worn an overdress. Sometimes the overdress was made of elaborate silks in patterns and solids, of bold colorings that became a sharp contrast from the white chemise gown. This popular overgown would evolve into a Pelisse style during the Regency and Federalist periods, keeping with the ever increasing popularity of gauzy cottons and silks.
